5 years later – Fairtrade's contribution to rural development
Published: 23 May 2018
With the CEval study of 2018, data could be collected that previously did not exist in Fairtrade: the long-term rural development of small farmer organizations and plantations.
Over a period of 5 years, researchers have demonstrated that Fairtrade empowers farmers by stabilizing their economic situation and sustainably strengthening their awareness of green farming. The study also shows that climate change threatens smallholder agriculture.
Conducted by CEval - Center for Evaluation, the study was commissioned by Fairtrade Germany and Max Havelaar Switzerland, together with Fairtrade Austria and the Swiss State Secretary of Economic Affairs (SECO).
